So I'm going to be real instead of posting a belated Happy Father's Day I'm just going to go against the grain and say that Father's Day is not my favorite holiday. To be completely honest it doesn't even scratch the surface of my top ten. My biological father and I haven't spoken since I was 7 and my stepfather left my mom right after I graduated highschool. To say the least the father figures in my life have been less than stellar. But I find solace in the fact that I have a Heavenly Father who can encompass all an earthly father should be and so much more. I have struggled with feelings of bitterness and resentment over missing out on that special bond that a father has with his daughter but I know that God has plans that are bigger than my own and I can trust Him to provide all that I will ever need in a father.
So to end this gloomy note I do have something positive to say about Father's Day, and that is that I have a fabulous Father In Law without whom I wouldn't have my amazing husband. It was his relationship with his son that made Mr. A the man I married so for that I'm thankful and blessed.

I know many who feel the same way you do. My Hubby hasn't ever had a good relationship with his Dad (though, in light of the recent circumstances, I think they are working at mending that) but, he is determined to not let it be that way with our children and I really appreciate that. It's amazing how a Dad can make or break his children in so many areas. It makes me very grateful for that hedge of protection that comes from God, because there are so many men I know that have chosen to walk different paths than the ones their fathers set before them, and that's only through the grace of God!
Hope you have a great week.
So glad you cna still find peace in your heavenly father & woohoo for fabulous father-in-laws!
father's day is hard for me too.. I lost my biological father at the age of 5.. I do have a great stepdad but things are never the same...
Hey, from what I can tell your husband is going to make an amazing father one day. I understand what you're saying about feeling like you've missed out on the bond between father and daughter. Despite the fact that my dad is still around, his disease has made him into a completely different person than the man I knew as a kid and taht is also difficult. I truly believe that any shortcomings in a relationship we may have had with our fathers will be completely overcome when we see the way our husbands are with our FUTURE children.
isn't it great how much peace can come from our Heavenly Father if we let Him? That is great that you have a great father in law and a husband who will make a wonderful dad one day!
Yeah, I am not such a fan of Father's Day either. I love my step-father, but the entire holiday makes me feel very bitter. Sigh.
Hope you have a great week!
Thank you sooo much for your sweet comment - it is so fun having people share in our joy!
What an incredible blessing to have such an awesome FIL!! That is SO special!
I completely understand where you're coming from although our stories are different. The thing that I hold tight to is that I chose my husband to be the father of my children and know that God blessed our union. Celebrate your FIL, but take comfort in what role Mr. A will take in erasing the bad memories of the past. :)
