"Oklahoma where the ice storms sweep across the plains"

Wait...

that's not the way the state song goes! Well maybe not but it sure feels like it on days like today where OK has pretty much shut down in anticipation of Ice Storm 2010.
As much as I love my home state and I really do I love that I live in a state that embraces the values of a helping hand and if you're stranded in Oklahoma you can almost bet some friendly person is going to help you out. In fact after the Murrah building bombing in 1995 the "Oklahoma Standard" was defined and I believe it truly embodies Oklahoma as a whole.

"The "Oklahoma Standard" was born in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City Bombing. In April 1995, Oklahomans dropped everything to assist their friends and neighbors, coworkers and strangers. The response following the blast can only be described as amazing. First responders from across the state and nation converged in downtown Oklahoma City to rescue the living and then honorably recover the victims. Citizens lined up in record numbers to donate blood. Any call for supplies was answered without question or hesitation in overwhelming numbers.

The Oklahoma Standard continues to be the benchmark against which all efforts are measured. It is a high standard we expect to meet and Oklahomans are always up to the challenge

So like I said I love my home state. I don't love the ice we get in the winters. People from cold winter states might mock me and 12 foot of snow is one thing to deal with it but until you've driven with 1-2 inches of solid ice under your tires you just don't understand why we Okies tend to freak out at the thought of ice.

So as I write this I'm sitting at work anxiously watching the weather to make sure I'll be able to get home tonight and I'm praying that the ice isn't so thick that half the state loses power, I'm watching the school closings scroll on the weather websites and just hoping maybe just maybe the weathermen are over estimating this storm.

So if you have a few extra minutes in your day say a prayer for Oklahoma that we're able to weather this storm with as little problem as possible.

Thanks friends....

I'm just saying, chill out, it's going to be okay. Does that warrant deleting my comment? Seriously?

I know people write on blogs to be overly dramatic and have everyone else pump up their egos in the comments section. And also try to get other people to read their blog. Trust me, I get it. On the other hand, my comment was reality and it got deleted? Nice job.

Here, let me put something to pump up your ego so you'll keep my comment:

"you're so cute"
"i'm totally with you"
"you hang in there, praying for OK"

Was that good enough for you to keep my comment posted?

Mike your comment was deleted cause I don't know you you've never commented on my blog before and you don't know anything about me. I don't write on my blog for people to pump up my ego it's my outlet and I choose to write what I want for me it would not make a difference to me if anyone ever commented. If you've never commented on my blog before then really I don't think the rudeness is warranted. While I agree with you that Oklahomans over-react about weather it was evidenced in the packed out stores last night but it is the only thing on most Oklahomans minds today. I post what I want when I want and I really don't need rude comments especially from someone who for all I know this is the only post they've ever read. Have a great day.

I apologize for sounding rude. My first post was not rude at all, but yet got deleted because it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. And that's what I thought was stupid. That's all.

I think you have a great blog and enjoy reading it. I live in Oklahoma and have lived through ice storms and tornadoes. Likewise I lived through multiple hurricanes in Texas. All I was saying is that bad weather sucks, but it's life and you gotta deal with it.

Again I apologize for being rude. Stay safe through the storms.

Mike thanks for the apology welcome to the blog sorry for the early delete it was premature reaction and your right in that I shouldn't delete something because it isn't "puppies and rainbows" hope you don't lose power over the weekend.

I feel you on the ice! I hate ice, I'll do the crazy amounts of snow but I've had enough horrible experiences with ice over the past few years to have developed a healthy fear/respect for any sort of ice. If nothing else, for the jerks in pickups that think they are untouchable, even on ice, and then slam into your car & total it because they were driving too fast and they too lost control of their vehicle just like every other car on the road.... :)

Stay safe and warm this weekend, you'll be in my prayers! Also I left you a little award on my blog!
