a question?

Well hello bloggie world how are you today? Sorry I've been a bad blogger lately been digging through financial paperwork and all the good stuff that goes along with purchasing a home. I've also finally allowed myself to start planning out our rooms and ideas for our future home. Mr. A made fun of me yesterday evening cause I went to Lowes on my lunch break and just wondered around cause I didn't have any plans and I thought it'd be fun...... wait a minute hold the phone, did I just say Lowe's was fun, me the girl who despised going to home improvement stores with my parents when I was younger? Yes my friends it's true the closer we get to our close date the giddier I become making plans to make our cute little house our home.

I asked a few of my bloggie friends for their suggestions on cleaning products, and basic toolkit for first time homeowners and I got some great responses including an awesome blog post from My Happy House whose blog by the way is fantastic! However, I thought I'd put it to all you lovely readers. We are after all going from a 750 square foot apartment with no yard to an almost 1700 square foot house with a decent sized back yard oh and a covered deck.

So lay it on me friends what are the basic tools/cleaning products/yard maintenance necessities needed for the first time homeowner?

oh and just in case you were wondering our inspections went well and now we're just playing the waiting game on the appraisal! If all goes as planned we're 31 days from closing!!

Hmm..well, we don't have to do yardwork...

but...

I say its still a MUST to have a hose, good nozzle, and a good way to roll the sucker in. Also, gardening stuff...I can't tell you how many times I've went out and had to pick up a new shovel, rake, etc...(just b/c I thought we had them and didn't)

Also...
-lots of stock in lightbulbs
-tools you can grab to 'hang' things or fix things at easy access
-caulk...for tubs or for along the floor boards
-brooms/mops and all necessary cleaning supplies
-touch up paint
-MAGIC ERASERS (for when things get clobbered into the wall, suddenly the spots disappear...
-Paint new rooms...everything looks SO much better freshly painted

hmm...

i guess that was sporatic : )

oh and PS: I had every single room in my house and the paint colors all swatched out PRE settlement also...laid them out and glued them on a piece of paper, being all nerdy and such...

Wow...that is a list that I'm still compiling and we've been homeowners for almost 3 years.

With the yard maintenance you'll definitely need a good rake and/or shovel...we didn't have thse things until last summer and every time we needed on we would just have to borrow it.

As for the cleaning supplies it all depends on your flooring, but if you have hardwood I would highly recommend the Swiffer sweeper or somethign similar...it works so much better than a broom to pick up dust & other small particles (in our case it works great on dog hair).

Good luck!

Blog hopped here from Jocelyn (I think!) and excited to meet a fellow Okie in blog land! :) Congrats on the new house, I had to giggle at your "loving Lowes" comment, because when my DH and I were building our house, we spent many, many, MANY a date night at Lowes. My only advice to you is not to try to accumulate everything before you move, wait until you need it to buy it, or else you'll find yourself losing things and buying them again anyway. Or maybe that's just what I do...ha! As far as cleaning supplies go, I use simple stuff like vinegar, baking soda and bleach for the real tough stuff. Bar keepers friend is great for getting stubborn stains up. ChemDry carpet cleaner is our favorite (comes in a can...) spot removal. The list could go on! My hubby is a builder, so I don't have a clue about tools to keep on hand. My garage is one giant tool box so I never have to wonder. :) Good luck on your closing date, and you have a new follower!

Hmmm, I'll have to think about this one for a bit. My dad used to have his own business in construction so every tool known to man is at my fingertips (just out the back door!) but for cleaning supplies I am in love with the stuff from Melaleuca, I love that it's non-toxic and "green". Other things-Katie covered it pretty well but what about a grill! We are set to move into our new place end of next month and you better believe that's what the hubs will be getting for his birthday!
