I had a dentist appointment this morning.
I was not particularly excited about visiting the dentist, but I had to due to pain and some of Mrs. A's previous tooth issues that worsened when ignored that lead me to pay attention to pain. There was a new patient form to fill out that even had a question about being nervous visiting the dentist. I wanted to say yes, because I was in fact nervous about visiting to the dentist. However, there was an "If yes, why ___________" and I did not feel like answering that question.
But it was not because of the film The Dentist.
When I finally got beyond the waiting room I was lead to a good-size room without doors. I was not very thrilled by the lack of doors. Also, I later noticed that the cabinet on one wall was shared by the room next door and I could see into that room (and vice versa) which was also displeasing. In front of "the chair" was a window. There were venetian blinds that could be lowered so that the house across the street couldn't see in to the room, but they were not lowered. I watched their dogs sit in the shade and wander off, though, which was mildly entertaining. As much as watching dogs disappear and reappear all while doing nothing spectacular can be entertaining.
However, when it came time for the X-Rays, I was reminded of a very familiar aspect of any dentist visit -- the taste. Taste, you say? Taste, I say. You see, rather than doing X-Rays the quick, easy way of sitting my chin at an uncomfortable angle (due to my height being above four-and-a-half feet) while the X-Ray machine moves around my head and tries to give me slowly developing, untraceable nasal cancer. No. I would presume it is because my teeth are no longer coming in and I am an adult now. So I must get intraoral X-Rays and I must repeatedly have what I presume is film, covered in protective plastics, with a little circular target that extended out while I had to bite down, but not too hard. And then she aimed the X-Ray machine at my mouth, quite closely at times. Not my favorite method but I suppose I'll need to get used to it.
But it was not then, with gloved hands and dental instruments in my mouth, that I had my moment of dental nostalgia. It was when the implements were removed (repeatedly with the 20 or so X-Rays) that I tasted the familiar dentist taste. I don't know what it is. Perhaps it is the gloves or perhaps it is the plastic around the film. I'm not entirely sure, but it was strangely comforting.
Which is good, because when I go back, I can say, "Hey, stick your hands in my mouth; it's for science."

blessings!!
Since I last updated you all on my mother she finished her chemo treatments and we are patiently awaiting our follow up meeting with the doc this Thursday. But we received such a huge blessing recently in the form of her being accepted into an Assisted Living Community she still has her own apartment and still gets to keep her little dog but there are community activities that the residents do and many opportunities for her to be in fellowship with others going through treatments. The best part is that rent is based off her income and since she's only receiving her Social Security check as income her rent is below 100.00 dollars a month!! Something she can completely handle on her own which frees up me and the rest of my siblings from worrying about how mom's going to pay her bills.

Her situation has been a huge wake up call for me in that I am doing the right thing in saving for retirement now so I won't be put in her situation when I'm older. I walked in to her apartment last night after helping move some boxes and saw it for the first time and literally burst into tears this was such an answer to prayer! I'll keep everyone posted on what we find out on Thursday.

randomness and fall decorating fun!
This weekend I managed to scratch up my left eye due to a contact fiasco I'll explain in a minute. Experience some serious G-Force on some rides at the fair. Play a card game while simultaneously playing with a too cute for words kitten, enjoy a great Sunday service nap for way too long, and watch the Wizard of Oz while cleaning our apartment.
Ok so backing up to random scratching of my eye. Saturday morning I woke up put my contacts in got in the shower and when I got out my left eye was bugging me so I was rubbing it finally I decided to pull my lense out of my eye and see if it was dirty and that's what was causing the irritation. I went to pull the lense out and it ripped leaving part of it on my eye I searched around my eye for any remainders and didn't feel anything so I put a fresh lense in and went on to the fair with Mr. & Mrs. G this time around we rode rides which was fun and crazy at the same time. It's just no fun to discover you're not as young as you used to be and yes that corn dog is going to mess with your stomach on a ride that spins you so fast the g-force knocks you into the other person.
So anyway on the way home we stopped off for fast food for dinner and I went to the restroom cause my contact was bugging me I rubbed my eye and little peice of contact fell out of my eye I thought well at least I got it all now and put my lense back in not thinking about it.
When Mr. A and I finally got home for the evening after playing games at Mr. & Mrs. G's home and playing with their adorable kitten named Cocoa. I went to take my contact lenses out and put my glasses on and that's when I felt like there was still something in my eye. After looking up a few tips on the internet and sitting in front of a mirror for a good 15 minutes I was finally able to pull the half a ripped contact lense that was still in my eye out I had been wearing double lenses all day!
As you can imagine my eye is severely red and very scratched up so it's glasses for me for a few days which I abhor oh well at least my eye will rest. Moral of the story if you rip your contact on your eye be certain that you get all the peices out of your eye before putting in new lenses or you'll wind up with a very un-cute red eye.
We missed our Bible Study class Sunday morning but made it for services and then went to lunch afterwards with Mr. & Mrs. D. After that we headed home for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. We lounged around all afternoon an I must admit I napped for a good 3 hours. The fair takes a lot out of you my friends. Or maybe I'm just getting old :) Sunday evening I did some cleaning and put up our fall decorations!

It said "we made it for 45 falls blessings to you and many falls to come" This past year Bob passed away but we'll always have that plate as a wonderful reminder of him.

Wedded Wednesday Advice from Family & Friends
When Mr. A and I tied the knot we had our guests write down a piece of marriage advice or a wish for us as a couple I loved reading them all and here are some of my faves.
Never assume.
Compliment more than you criticize.
Strive to be the spouse who brags instead of complains
Remember that it is ok to do things differently (e.g. there is more than one way to peel a potato or fold the laundry).
Always make time for the two of you.
Marry someone that you enjoy listening and talking to.
Remember that marriage is sometimes a bed of roses and sometimes there are thorns.
Remember that the best gift that you can give your children is to love their mother/father.
Be fair! Split the housework, spending money, etc evenly. This way you are never resentful of your partners contributions (or lack of) or expenditures.
Never go to bed angry. (Unless it's 3a.m. and you're exhausted, angry, and not thinking straight.)
Remember that people do fight. It's how you do it that matters.
Before starting an argument, consider if it's really worth it.
Agree to disagree.
Respect each other's privacy.

Great State Fair of Oklahoma
Today was filled with greasy fried food, livestock, crazy rides, even crazier crowds and a large amount of FUN!!!
We started the evening off with some brats for Mr A and I and a turkey leg for Mr. and Mrs S and a small cute jug of root beer. Imagine a gallon of milk miniaturized.
After we'd had dinner we wandered through the new cars displayed in the Travel and Transportation building and Mr. A and I decided we really liked the Prius, Mr & Mrs. S really liked the 2010 Ford Fusion. After we checked out all the new cars we headed over see some goats and sheep in the livestock buildings went outside just in time to check out the piggy races baby pigs racing around a track for tasty treats it was freaking adorable. Then we headed over to the Ag displays and saw prize winning cows, chickens, and bunnies. I do believe the chickens we're a little terrified when Mr. A and Mr. S were both telling them how tasty they looked. Then we checked out the Made in Oklahoma building which features businesses who are local to Oklahoma of interest was the Oklahoma Wineries and all their different types of wine along with the roasted candied almonds. You'd better believe a bag of those tasty almonds came home with Mr. A and I.
After the Made in Oklahoma building we headed over to the Creative Arts building to see the usual 4-H displays and see who won awards and learned that it was the 4-H Centennial year. We saw winning woodwork, photographs, pottery, collections, and of course my fave decorated cakes. I decided I might have to enter the cake competition at the State Fair next year because I didn't see anything I felt like I couldn't do.
After we finished at the 4-H displays we headed out to the main midway and the crazy crowds this is when the night became hilarious. Mr. A and I grabbed a funnel cake and Mr. & Mrs. S grabbed deep fried mashed potatoes. (side note: what is it with state fairs and deep frying everything?!) We sat down near the midway and just did some people watching. It's always interesting to see people in a setting such as the state fair and how many different types of people you see. The highlight was watching a woman with a small child pick up a bag of cotton candy that had been laying on the street for at least the 30 minutes that we were sitting there. Umm yeah can we say gross. Gotta love the state fair it attracts all kinds of people :)
Mr. A and I may quite possibly be heading back to the state fair next weekend with Mr. & Mrs. D and Mr. & Mrs. G just a warning there may be more fair stories to share :)

weekend re-cap and things to look forward to.....
WARNING: CUTE DOGGIE PICS OVERLOAD IN THIS POST!
Hi bloggy world,
Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend I know I did it was rainy and chilly and really starting to feel like the fall and I couldn't be more thrilled about that. I'm excited that as of now I have changed into my "comfy jams" which is our code word for comfortable clothes. (side note: if you want a really good laugh check out Katie's post Your lingo ain't my lingo)and drinking hot tea. It's fabulous.
Our weekend began with a vet appointment for our Missy girl. We took her in because she's been coughing although Mr. A says she only does it when I'm around because she knows I will baby her. The vet did a full exam on her and determined that she does not have Kennel Cough which is what we were afraid of she just has an upper respiratory infection. The doc gave us some antibiotics to give her and she has a follow up appointment on Sunday. Her vet is located inside petsmart and of course baby girl got a new toy for being so good at the vet. Her doc told us she was a "rock star" while they were taking the blood & stool samples for testing. Then we took her out to play when we got home and I captured a few cute images of her at the vet and then playing afterwards.
Saturday we did a little grocery shopping and lounged around. Unfortunately for Mr. A his Oklahoma State Cowboys did not play well on Saturday and lost to Houston, but fortunately for me The Tulsa Golden Hurricane killed New Mexico, and the BAMA tide kept on rolling right over Floride International. I also took the opportunity to bake some yummy chocolate cupcakes and make some awesome chicken wontons for dinner..
Sunday we headed out to Chili's after church with (I am using the initial for their last name) couple G and couple D it was so much fun and later us girls all got together at our place to make peanut butter icing to ice those yummy chocolate cupcakes I baked on Saturday night. Peanut butter buttercream icing is sinfully delicious and I can't wait to make it again.
peanut butter icing recipe from Wilton
cup solid vegetable shortening
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 cups (approx. 1 lb.) confectioners' sugar, sifted
4-6 tablespoons milk
Makes: About 3 cups.
instructions
Cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add peanut butter and vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Re-whip before using.
Sunday night after the girls (side note I LOVE HAVING GIRL FRIENDS IN THE SAME CITY AGAIN) left I settled in to watch a little TV and flipped over to watch the VMA's which was seriously the biggest train wreck I have ever seen. Don't even get me started on what Kanye West did to Taylor Swift that was ridiculous. and Lady Gaga oy vey. I came to the conclusion that I am simply too old and uncool or too conservative to enjoy the VMA's anymore. Give me my Tony Awards any day of the week over something crazy like the VMA's.
So that was my lovely weekend and I have so many fun things to look forward to this week.
Wednesday night I'm heading out to my fave place to shop Michael's craft store with a friend to pick up a few things should be fun.
Thursday night has turned into weekly girls night since it's our Husbands' video game night and I love it. The husband's play video games and us girls do all sorts of fun crafty things like making jewelry, baking, or whatever else we feel like doing. So fun!
Friday the hubs and I are having date night at the laundro-mat no we're not crazy we get take out food and take it along with some playing cards or a game to the laundro-mat and we talk and play games while we get the laundry done up. It makes the chore much less horrible.
Then Saturday we're going to "THE GREAT STATE FAIR OF OKLAHOMA" I'm so excited to eat bad for you fried food and enjoy all the fun stuff.
Such a fun week ahead makes the work week not so bad.
oh and just for fun even though my hair cut is old I took this random pic in the car while waiting for the Mr. to get off work.

weekend recap & mom update.
Happy first day back to work from long weekend friends. If you anything like me you're having a hard time wrapping your brain around why Tuesday feels like Monday.
I hope everyone had lovely weekends full of summertime bliss and fall anticipation.
I spent most of my weekend watching football and being thrilled with all 3 of my fave teams winning their first games of the season.
Friday night we went fall clothing shopping and got Mr. A some new dress clothes and me a few more tops to wear to work since I'm doing fine in the jeans dept. and pretty good in the dress slacks dept. I could stand to add a few more skirts but we do our shopping once every 4 months so skirts will have to wait until January.
Saturday we were up early to do laundry before the football game we wanted to watch came on at 2:30 we got home 30 minutes before the game started and spent the rest of the afternoon watching games, reading and in general being couch potatoes it was fabulous. Late Saturday afternoon I went to CVS and made the switch with my make up from summer to fall. I went dark with my lip gloss and switched over to my purples and greens for eye shadow and switched to a creamy rose colored blush and some dark nail polish I even got adventurous and picked up a steely grey polish since all the fashion forward people say that it will be big this fall. I love the darker fall nail colors because they look great with my super short nails. I decided to try the grey out over the long weekend and at first I thought I didn't like it but it's growing on me.
Sunday we had lunch after church with friends and had a blast. Sunday evening we had a cookout with my family it was great because I got to see my big brother I only get to see about 4 times a year because he is a truck driver and I got to play with my favorite great niece (yes you read that correct) great niece Madalynn she's 5 months old and the most adorable blue eyed baby I've ever seen. I'm terrified to admit that holding her and playing peek a boo and seeing Mr. A hold her and play too made me want one.
Yesterday we lounged around in the morning and afternoon and then headed over to our friends house for food and games I learned how to play Sequence and thoroughly enjoyed it when the girls team beat the boys team.
I have decided I need to take more pics we had such a blast this entire weekend and I have no pics to prove how much fun we had.
As for mom's update she's doing well she's on her last of the 4 rounds of chemotherapy today is the re-schedule of the first treatment she wasn't able to take so when she's finished with it she will be done with Chemo and we'll be meeting with her team on October 1st to find out what our next steps will be. So thank you all so much for continuing to lift her up in your prayers it means the world to me and I have to believe that she is doing so well because of all the people praying for her.
She has some scans on Friday and I get to go be with her for those and hopefully we'll hear some positive news on the 1st.

I hope everyone had lovely weekends full of summertime bliss and fall anticipation.
I spent most of my weekend watching football and being thrilled with all 3 of my fave teams winning their first games of the season.
Friday night we went fall clothing shopping and got Mr. A some new dress clothes and me a few more tops to wear to work since I'm doing fine in the jeans dept. and pretty good in the dress slacks dept. I could stand to add a few more skirts but we do our shopping once every 4 months so skirts will have to wait until January.
Saturday we were up early to do laundry before the football game we wanted to watch came on at 2:30 we got home 30 minutes before the game started and spent the rest of the afternoon watching games, reading and in general being couch potatoes it was fabulous. Thoughts on Anniversaries
It’s time again for Wedded Wednesday with Leah at Marital Bless.
This wedded Wednesday has me thinking about anniversaries since the turning of the calendar to September puts me just a little over a month away from our 2 year wedding anniversary. I think about all the special moments we’ve had over the last 2 years and the trials we’ve endured and become stronger for. I think the world’s way of trying to maximize every minute of every day makes anniversaries that much more important we spend day in and day out racing through life and our anniversary is the one day where we can sit back and remember our wedding and all the wonderful things we love about one another.
Mr. A and I always feel that we’re at risk of squeezing the enjoyment out of the time we have together. We try to constantly remind ourselves that marriage doesn't operate on a 40-hour week; it's a daily, long-term, dawn-past-dusk partnership..
I often wonder what our marriage will look like on our 5,10,20 year anniversary and I try to imagine our long-term future together? Proverbs 24:3-4 says: "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."
We have started marking time more carefully, taking the opportunity to reminisce about the good gifts we've enjoyed as a couple. We are constantly reminding ourselves that the memories we treasure tomorrow will be the ones we create today.
Mr. A and I are traditionalist in that we are trying to follow the traditional list of anniversary gifts. Last year was paper and I got a new Bible, Jeremy got a blown up photograph of the night sky on our wedding day that says “I love you to the moon and back”. This year is cotton and I’m at a total loss as to what get him and I only have 1 month and 19 days to figure it out.
Do anniversaries make you think about your long term future and do you get the giddy joy I do thinking about the legacy you’ll leave behind of a marriage that stood the test of time and weathered the storms?

oh September how do I love thee let me count the ways....
1. it's finally starting to feel like fall and the first official day of the season is the 22nd!!
2. the leaves are starting to change and they dance and sway
3. jeans and hoodies
4. pumpkin spiced lattes at Starbucks
5. football season (need I say more)
6. and you come right before my favorite month October
I am so excited about it being September and soon to be the fall and that this weekend is Labor Day weekend which means 3 days off. I had my first coaches meeting for the cheerleading squad I'll be coaching and I am so excited to get started.
My weekend went by in a haze but it was so much fun Friday night I invited a friend over to make cupcakes with me for an order I had going out Saturday morning.
Saturday I did housework and typical weekend errands.
Sunday we went grocery shopping after church and then had friends over for dinner and some Mario Kart racing. We had a blast but I'm sad to say my Mario Kart skills still leave something to be desired. Oh well I had fun crashing into walls and driving off cliffs.
Monday was just an overall no good very bad day and yesterday I spent the morning at the chemo clinic with mom for her 2nd to last treatment. I want to do something nice for her chemo nurses but I'm not sure what anyone have any ideas?
